Rookie Division Specific Rules

Established Babe Ruth “Rule Book” rules apply to all Rookie Games.  In additions Fluvanna Youth Baseball has adopted these additional rules applying to all games. Please note specific rules/exceptions below that will apply to this Division:
1.  1 hour and 30 minute time limit. NO inning will be allowed to start after 1 hour 30 minute time, however if the game is in the middle of an inning at this time the game will continue until the end of the current inning.

2.  Pitching machine shall be set at 43 MPH for the entire season. 

3.  Bunting will be allowed in Rookie Division.

4.  ONE base limit per EACH overthrown ball, runner may advance at own risk. Ball is live until the leader runner is held. Runners cannot advance past current base once the ball in in control anywhere in the infield dirt.

5.  The batter will receive a maximum of 5 pitches or 3 strikes, and there are no called balls or strikes.  A pitch can be declared “no pitch” if it is deemed unhittable (bounces before home plate or sails above batters helmet).  The umpire of that inning makes that “no pitch” call.  Any ball that is swung at is declared a strike.

6.  Dead Ball-The ball is declared dead if the ball makes any contact with pitching machine, the umpire, or coach running the pitching machine.  This will result in a single and all runners advancing 1 total base.

7.  Runners may not leave the base before the ball is contacted with the bat.

8.  All players must bat for the entire game.   The hitting team will hit until 3 outs are recorded or they bat once through the lineup. 

9.  A total of 10 players will play the field each inning.  Pitcher, catcher, 4 infielders and 4 outfielders.

10.  Any time a player or coach behaves in an unsportsmanlike manner (throwing equipment, abusive language),he/she may, at the discretion of the a commissioner, may be removed from the game. 

11.  Managers from both teams after a game will make sure that their dugout and bleachers are clean after the game.

12.  Players and coaches in uniform are the only people allowed in the dugout, field and bull pen area. Any person not wearing the complete uniform issued by the league will not be allowed in the dugout. Please do not allow any children other than players in the dugout.  1 team mom or 1 substitute team mom is also allowed (background checks required). . No exceptions

13.  There are no umpires during games for this division during regular season.  Managers from both teams will use professional judgement and their expertise in helping to umpire their games.

14.  Players may not slide head-first into any base.
